About Fairfield Stables
We opened on the 12th February 2010 as an official Riding School and Trekking Centre in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds, East Yorkshire, Pocklington. We started with only 4 horses and 1 pony building up to what we have now, 2 ponies and 7 horses which we pride ourselves on the welfare and condition of. We are a small family run business run by me Heather Buck and my father Richard Buck who is also a farrier in the local area. We have lived hear in Pocklington for over 10 years so know the area well sharing our knowledge of bridle ways and the beautiful countryside with people who come ride with us.
Our family has had horses for many generations even been traced back to the 1630 to a William Buck dealing in horses in Durham, and the name William is still in the family!
Richard Buck has worked on ranched in Texas and brought his knowledge of the horses and the saddles back with him leaving us with a unique opportunity to share what we know and to teach a more relaxed way of riding which Western riding is. Also he has competed in calf roping competitions out there doing very well which we are also able to teach to the more advanced, offering what most cant, an instructor who has been there and got the T-Shirt! Also he is a well known reputable farrier and our blacksmith here at Fairfield Stables.
I (Heather Buck) have competed in many Dales Pony Classes since the age of 6, riding for her Grandad William Buck very successfully I have also been in the Horse and Hound Magazine. I have also last year started to compete in the Western showing classes, having only ever competed in speed events before and seem to be doing very well with our home bred Chestnut mare Zante. Also we do a lot of jumping just for fun at local shows or Cross Country parks so for those would liked to be pushed higher we have the horses to do it which are also competed regularly.
We pride ourselves on being a family run business with a happy, relaxing, casual atmosphere as we believe people in the horse world can be to serious and we are trying to teach people to a professional standard but with a more casual approach, after all riding is for fun and that’s what we wish to encourage.
